RTO Form 9: Application for the Renewal of the Driving Licence

The RTO offers you a valid driving licence after you successfully clear the exam. However, this permit remains valid for 20 years, or till the candidate attains 50 years (whichever is earlier). After the expiry of the licence, according to Section 177 of the Motor Act, 1988, riders get a grace period for only 30 days. During this period, you must apply for the renewal by the submission of RTO form 9. Driving vehicles with an expired licence beyond the grace period is a punishable offence by law. Applicants also bear penalty charges when they file for the renewal after 30 days of the expiry of the previous permit.
