The government of Maharashtra on Tuesday issued a government resolution (GR) allowing a tax waiver of 50% for commercial vehicles for the financial year 2020-21. According to reports, however, it is still unclear as to how the the waiver will be applied.

According to the GR, the tax waiver will be applicable for the period between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2020 for goods vehicles, tourist vehicles, private service vehicles, excavators, commercial camper vehicles and school buses/vehicles. To be eligible for the waiver, the owner of the commercial vehicle needs to have had paid the tax for the previous year prior to March 31, 2020.
As per Prasanna Patwardhan, President, Bus and Car Operators Confederation of India, “Those who have not kept their vehicles under non-use will get benefit only till September-end. But let’s see how RTO (Regional Transport Office) interprets it.”
