As per officials in the company, the launch of the Phoenix was well underway, but had to pushed back due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. With Unlock 1.0, and a rise in the demand, the company has decided to launch the model in the market by the September quarter. As per Vipin Sondhi, MD, Ashok Leyland, “Within the next three months we will launch the Pheonix. The model itself is ready. It is because of the current situation that we decide to change the timing”.
The model Phoenix will launch Ashok Leyland into the 5-7 tonne segment, which so far is being dominated by Tata Motors and VECV. The company hopes to cement its position in the 5-7 tonne segment with the Phoenix. They already have a strong presence in the LCV segment with their model Dost, that falls under the 2-3 tonne category.
